Mumbai, Feb 16 (IANS) Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt's registered marriage with his partner Manyata may face legal hassles as it is in violation of the Muslim Personal Law (MPL), according to a legal expert.
As per the MPL, a Muslim woman cannot marry a man of any other religion unless she converts herself to the religion of her would-be husband or vice-versa, Bombay High Court advocate and MPL expert Neelofar S. Akhtar said here Saturday.
In the case of Manyata, a Muslim by birth, there is no proof that she converted to Hinduism before she married Dutt, save for the fact that she had earlier adopted a Hindu name, Akhtar told IANS.
Dutt and Manyata had a court marriage in Goa Feb 7.
Commenting on the reports that Manyata's former husband, Meeraj-ur-Rehman, moved a petition in the Bandra Magistrate's court that his marriage with Manyata has not been dissolved, Neelofar said he must have filed for restoration of conjugal right provided he is having a nikaahnama (marriage certificate).
Neelofar said if Rehman has not divorced Manyata nor has she sought khula (divorce at her behest) from him, then her marriage to Dutt is automatically rendered invalid.
Now the case would depend on whether Manyata can produce the official talaaqnaama (divorce certificate), or khulanama (divorce at wife's behest), or mubarranama (divorce by mutual consent).
Additionally, Neelofar said while the duo's marriage in Goa is proper, the marriage certificate issued by the Goa marriage registrar could be struck down as illegal.
"This is because though a person can get married anywhere in India under the Special Marriages Act, the marriage can be registered only in the state where he or she is domiciled

Mumbai, Feb 14 (IANS) From visiting cancer patients and holding special movie screenings to flirting and sipping wine, Bollywood stars had various interesting plans for Valentine's Day celebrations.
Aishwarya Rai: "I'll be attending the premiere of 'Jodhaa-Akbar' in Delhi on Valentine's Day, but Abhishek will be with me. So no complaints."

Koena Mitra: "Since I don't have anyone special in my life I'll do the usual things like watching a movie with my girlfriends, shopping till I drop and some harmless male-bashing with my girlie pals. And I may do some serious flirting. Is that allowed?"

Nikhil Advani left for Shanghai on Monday, Jan 28, to shoot for the action opus Chandni Chowk To China. "We've story-boarded the entire film. The action-comedy is now coming to life. And the big news is that this would be the first film to be shot on Beijing's Great Wall Of China. Roger Yuan from Shanghai Knights will be one of Akshay's adversaries. But the main villain is being played by Gordon Lieu of Kill Bill Part 2."
"Akshay Kumar will be performing huge action scenes on the Great Wall Of China. In terms of action we want to take Bollywood to another level with this one," informs Nikhil. A romantic song featuring Akshay and Deepika Padukone may also be filmed in around the Wall. "But the space for love in the plot is between the action and the comedy. The romance here has a different flavor. We finish the film in four weeks at a stretch,” warns Nikhil before taking off to China. Deepika has many difficult stunts to perform. While Akshay has been training for his action scenes, Deepika who has been shooting with Ranbir Kapoor in Australia returned on Sunday to join the unit in China. "In October and November she trained for her share of the martial arts. She needs to brush up her martial arts training. All her songs are ready and choreographed. So now that she's back she just has to start rehearsing," informs Nikhil.
Said Nikhil excitedly, "This would be my fourth visit to China in four months. Our entire unit is going, and that includes cooks." Akshay Kumar plays a cook in this action film.(source bollywood.com)

John Abraham has added another feather to his hat with his presence in the directorial debut of the internationally acclaimed photographer and screenplay writer, Sooni Taraporevala. The film titled Little Zizou is in the post-production stage and is being produced by Indian Films.
The director of film, Sooni, who also happens to be a close friend of Mira Nair, claimed that John's role of a Parsi boy would take everyone by surprise. She further added that, although the film revolves around the game of football, John's character had nothing to do with the game.
A spokesperson from Indian films informed that the only actor who fitted in the bill as soon as they heard the script was John. The film also stars Boman Irani, Immaduddin Shah, Cyrus Broacha and Kurush Deboo.

Mumbai, Feb 19 (IANS) Juhi Chawla will be seen in a Rakesh Roshan film again, "Krazzy 4", which is scheduled for release April 14.
Her earlier venture with Roshan was in his ill-fated "Karobaar" in 2000, in which she played Rishi Kapoor's wife who's tempted to spend a night with tycoon Anil Kapoor. The remake of the Robert Redford-Demi Moore film "An Indecent Proposal" was a fiasco.
"That's because the film got delayed. By the time 'Karobaar' was released, the story was stale. Anyway, Juhi is working with us again," Rakesh Roshan told IANS.
In "Krazzy 4", the actress plays a psychiatrist. The film is being directed by Raja Sen.
"Juhi plays a very important role of a psychiatrist. We needed someone mature. While all the guys - Arshad Warsi, Rajpal Yadav, Irrfan Khan and Suresh Menon - are funny, Juhi is very serious," said Rakesh Roshan.
This is Juhi's second role as a shrink in a comedy. She was given the thankless task of curing Govinda's mind in David Dhawan's "Deewana Mastana".
Not too many of our leading ladies get to play psychiatrists. Lately, starlet Pinky Harwani starred as a shrink whom the troubled Sammir Dattani was seeing in Vikram Bhatt's "Life Mein Kabhi Kabhie".
Almost her entire track was edited out.

Jodha Akbar

We can breathe easy! JODHAA AKBAR, the first major release of 2008, has fetched impressive numbers at major centres across India, faring exceptionally well in Overseas.
Let's not compare JODHAA AKBAR with either OM SHANTI OM or WELCOME. Here's why…
* The genres are different. OM SHANTI OM tilted more towards comedy, while WELCOME was a non-stop laugh-riot. Both were mass-friendly films. JODHAA AKBAR is a historical and generally speaking, history is not everybody's favorite subject.
* The release period was different. OM SHANTI OM opened during Diwali, while WELCOME was timed during Christmas vacations. JODHAA AKBAR didn't coincide with any festivities.
* In India, OM SHANTI OM was released at multiplexes and single screens at one go. WELCOME had a Friday noon release at multiplexes. JODHAA AKBAR lost out on the Friday booty since UTV and the multiplexes couldn't reach a settlement till Friday night. Resultantly, JODHAA AKBAR opened at several multiplexes across the country on Saturday, but the moviegoer was completely clueless of the development. It was only towards Saturday noon/evening that the multiplexes started reporting better occupancy.
* JODHAA AKBAR didn't release in Rajasthan, thus losing out on a substantial amount.
* While four shows a day were performed at single screens for OM SHANTI OM and WELCOME, in this case, the shows were limited to three shows a day, looking at its excessive length.
Friday was slow, but the business of JODHAA AKBAR showed a big jump on Saturday and Sunday; the film was excellent at all major centres. Even the single screens at smaller centres, which were weak, showed an upward trend. Let's not forget, the major chunk of business comes from bigger centres today, with multiplexes contributing enormously to the booty.
Monday onwards, JODHAA AKBAR has been maintaining 40% to 60% collections at multiplexes and with no major release till March 7 [BLACK & WHITE], the historical will have an open run for another two weeks.
The budget of the film was initially Rs. 37 cr., which shot up to Rs. 40 cr. [Ashutosh Gowariker officially confirmed the figures on my TV show]. Add to it another Rs. 8 to Rs. 10 cr. for print and promotion, which takes the final cost to Rs. 48 - Rs. 50 cr. And that amount is a cakewalk given the business at multiplexes of India, Overseas [fabulous] and also sale of Satellite and Home Video rights. In fact, the film should fetch an astronomical amount from Satellite and Home Video territory.
All said and done, JODHAA AKBAR is, in terms of economics, a success story. Pessimists be damned!

"I love travelling," says the ever-gorgeous Celina Jaitley who was in Dubai lately. Having traveled around the world three times, Celina pictures the exotic beaches, deserts and bustling city life of Dubai with her recent visit. Of late, Burj Dubai (the Dubai Tower), a marvelous skyscraper under renovation is predicted to be the world's tallest structure made by man. From Dubai Museum to Grand Mosque and from Dubai creek to Ban Yas Square, Dubai is the city with a cosmopolitan style.
Bollywood Hungama brings you the enigmatic city of Dubai through the eyes of Celina Jaitley.
Draped in a slick black cocktail dress, Celina stands in the classiest restaurant on the top of Burj Al Arab in Dubai. "There is a strict dress code that one has to wear, as a result I decided to wear my cocktail dress," informs Celina. The restaurant is famous for its best line up of wines and the most amazing seafood steak. "I enjoyed gorging into the big gigantic lobsters at night" says Celina, who is crazy about spicy and cheese filled dishes. "I know it's unhealthy but I indulge myself at least once a year and can eat a barrel of fondues by myself without sharing it with anyone…that's how crazy I am about cheese."
This is Celina's favourite point at Grand Hyatt in Dubai, which she says has an excellent service. The place is also blend of various cultures, she adds. The greenery cultivated in the hotel interior creates a mini replica of an oasis thus alleviating the travelers from the scorching summers of Dubai. "I was balancing on the edges of the railing and could have had a big fall," laughs Celina.
"Well, I was scared out of my wits ends with cars zooming by at 200 km/hr on both sides at the Emirates towers," exclaims Celina. One of the main attractions of Dubai, this stretch has got all the important buildings surrounding it. The most fascinating fact about this stretch is its four feet width which one cannot figure out because of the way this picture has been taken. Celina further adds, "The sun was at its peak and I thought that I was practically gonna faint but it was too fascinating to change my idea of capturing the beautiful array of buildings behind and its beauty through my eyes. Everything about Dubai is marvelous in spite of being in the middle of the desert. Also at night, the Fair Mont Hotel changing ten different colors on this stretch is something enthralling to witness."
"I am a very impulsive shopper and like to buy silly stuff. Over the years, I have learnt to become a more sensible shopper. I only buy what I really need that includes a lot of clothes, bags and over a thousand pairs of shoes," confesses Celina. Well, shopping at Kabana, one of the magnificent pieces of architecture she bought quaint jewelry and handicraft objects. This shopping mall also boasts of some exquisite traditional clothes encompassing old antics scarfs, Persian carpets etc. Well, our shopping queen seems to be living up to her word. She goes on to say, "The architecture reminded me of Aladdin and the exotic sets of Arabian Nights." (source bollywood.com)

Mumbai, Feb 16 (IANS) Diya Mirza is all set to change her prim image. She is acting in a comedy, "Fruit & Nut", directed by television's funny man Kunal Vijaykar.
She giggles: "It's meant to be a comedy. But it's an absolute horror because someone as wacky as Kunal is directing it. Boman Irani and Cyrus Broacha woo me in the movie. Can you imagine! I'm having a super-blast. It's my first full-fledged comedy. And it also involves a lot of physical comedy, which I've never done. It has been challenging, and finally a lot of fun to just let go. The smallest of actors in 'Fruit & Nut' are seasoned troupers, so I am constantly on my toes."
Diya says she's tired of being asked why the 'big chance' eludes her. "How can I answer that? For some people, it happens quickly. For others it takes time. I'm lucky to be getting roles in spite of so many unsuccessful films. I'm still getting offers from people like Naseeruddin Shah and Shojeet Sircar, who is making a movie with Amitabh Bachchan. The fact that someone like Naseer thinks of casting me is a big compliment to me."
Diya sees 2008 as a huge turning point in her career. "The line-up of films is versatile. And there're going to be many more lead parts. I think I am going to take giant steps this year. Even in a crazy film like "Cash", I carried myself with dignity."
She has several films in the pipeline. "I'm part of Rakesh Roshan's "Krazzy 4" though I'm one of the sane members of the cast. That's sad because I'd have happily played one of the nuts. It's been good fun because I got to work with artistes I've always admired like Irrfan Khan, Arshad Warsi and Juhi Chawla. I adore Juhi, to be working with her is like a dream come true."(source bollywood.com)
