Deepika one-up on Ash in first Cannes appearance

It's a thumbs up from designers to actress Deepika Padukone, who stole the limelight with a perfect attire on her very first red carpet appearance at the Cannes International Film Festival as against the experienced Aishwarya Rai who has made many a fashion faux pas.
Aishwarya, who has been attending the French film festival since 2002 as the global face of L'Oreal, has been drawing flak from designers for her wrong choice of outfits and was only able to impress last year when she wore a white off-shoulder Roberto Cavalli.
The 36-year-old looked great this year as well in a violet blue fully embroidered tulle and mousseline gown from Lebanese designer Elie Saab, but 24-year-old Deepika was able to make the right choice in her first go itself.

The young Deepika, who is attending the event as the face of liquor brand Chivas Regal, opted for a Rohit Bal -- off white, slightly embroidered saree with touches of gold, instead of a western look.
"She was wearing a saree and I think that's an appropriate outfit for any Indian diva walking an international platform. It was a nice off-white saree with a sexy blouse, making the look exude a good amount of glitz and glamour," designer Charu Parashar told IANS.
Designer Nida Mahmood said: "Deepika is a beautiful woman and was looking stunning in a saree. It's a very nice outfit that brings out the real form of a woman. It's sensual and elegant and if you can carry it well it makes you look awesome."
Deepika completed her look with a broad hand cuff, Kundan earrings and a stone encrusted clutch.

According to designer Sabbah Sharma, Deepika's decision to wear a saree for the international event was right.
"Deepika has an amazing height and Indian wear looks great on her. The blouse was very sexy and is perfect for her lean, well toned body. We are a country with unique art and craftsmanship and we should be proud to flaunt it, just like she did," said Sabbah.
Rohit Bal, who designed Deepika's look for the event, had said: "As a designer, who has been observing fashion since the last 25 years, I think the only one super star at this time at Cannes is going to be Deepika Padukone. There's nobody better than Deepika to break the rules and it's going to attract a lot of attention."
After her violet blue avatar the first day, Aishwarya opted to go black the next day.
She opted for a black off-shoulder, fish cut gown with neatly tied hair at the back and shocking red lip colour. While the gown was new, Aishwarya opted for the same round solitaires she wore the previous day.

Katrina, Kareena, Priyanka and Ash vie to be No.1

/photo.cms?msid=5855614

Four months of 2010 are over. And none of the Bollywood reigning queens — Kareena Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra — have actually opened their accounts so far. (PC’s Pyaar Impossible would have sunk even it had Kate Winslet, so one is discounting the film altogether.) “But this is the lull before the storm,’’ promises trade guru Taran Adarsh who feels that these four fabulous actresses will be locked in a fierce battle for supremacy in the coming months. “What’s more, they are absolutely on par with each other,’’ adds Taran, “all of them have the same advantages and disadvantages.

/photo.cms?msid=5855616

Now when you think of the fantastic four, you don’t want to visualise them in a cat-fight. But that’s exactly what is happening behind the scenes. Katrina keeps repeating that Kareena, Priyanka and herself are equally marketable, and that’s why they’re being constantly pitted against one another. Also, while Kat believes it’s the over-active media that is using the box office to make enemies out of the actresses, the fact is that these four are engaged in a race for the top. “We actresses are all grown-ups. We don’t make our career decisions based on idle gossip,’’ says Kat. Yet you hear from reliable sources that if Katrina has opted out of Anurag Basu’s film, the decision is to do with the presence of Priyanka in the project. While Priyanka conveniently floats stories of how she was the first choice for Tees Maar Khan and not Kat, etc., etc.

/photo.cms?msid=5855618

Her love for Saif Ali Khan notwithstanding, Kareena Kapoor is ruthlessly ambitious. Bebo says, “People can keep assuming that I’m a girl in love and so I’m less inclined towards work. But that is far from true. I hold a position of power in the industry and I’m not giving it up for anyone or anything.” Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s followers subtlety point out that the actress who handles her home expertly also continues to be a thoroughbred professional. Trade sources estimate that Rs.300 crore is riding on Ash this year, making her the No.1 at least for 2010. And though they’re secretly ready to scratch each others’ eyes out, the poised four are always being so polite. Priyanka refutes allegations that it is asphyxiating on the top. “I’m very Gandhian in my approach. I’m so consumed by work there is no time to breathe (yeah, in that sense it could be asphyxiating — but not otherwise). I have four films to complete by February 2011. And also one season of Khatron Ke Khiladi. So I have no time to pay attention to anyone’s career. I have so much on my own plate and gratefully so,’’ says PC. She adds, “I’m not insecure. I’m sometimes No 1, sometimes No 7 or sometimes No 10. The number game is just up to your last film. One film does well they prop you up there, one flops and they push you down. But for me it is about being consistent in my performance. ‘’ Brave words. However clever they are in camouflaging their feelings, the fact remains that these four girls are vying for the same pie.

Bikinis are no more a big deal for Bollywood babes. Gone are the days when actresses sporting a bikini onscreen would be slotted as sleazy. Today every A-grader from a Deepika, Lara, Rani, Kareena to Priyanka has done the bikini act in films. We present you a list of the sexy beauties from Bollywood who have got in the two-piece in recent times. Tell us who your favourite bikini babe from Bollywood is...

Three sexy bikini babes (Deepika Padukone, Lara Dutta and Jiah Khan), two-pieces and in one frame – it doesn’t get hotter than this.

Who’s got the hottest bikini body?

/photo.cms?msid=5855784

Everyone’s talking about Barbara Mori and how gorgeous the Mexican beauty looks in a bikini! The actress has become the talk of the town and apparently the most envied too for she according to many Bollywood hotties has the best bikini body! Even Lara Dutta has no qualms in admitting that Mori's body is simply fab! In spite of the super-hot weather, we thus let the temperatures soar further as we allow our desi hot ladies to give their verdict.

Lara Dutta

Lara Dutta
I think I have the best bikini body (smiles). Other than me it’s Barbara Mori. I am not the kind who spends hours and hours in the gym in order to look good. I have a very holistic approach towards my life. It an all round approach – mind, body and soul.

Jacqueline Fernandes

Jacqueline Fernandez
I think Shilpa Shetty has the best bikini body. I don’t like bodies that are too muscular and look as if they are worked upon. Shilpa does a lot of Yoga and she has this feminine and dainty body. She has a toned torso and her body looks naturally fit. I don’t think I have the best body as I really don’t pay attention to looking perfect. I like to be healthy.

Payal Rohatgi

Payal Rohatgi
I think I have the best bikini body. My mom says, I should have modesty but I work hard to maintain my body with kickboxing, so why not flaunt it? Apart from me, I feel Barbara and Lara Dutta look great in a bikini. Also the best body is of someone who is comfortable to carry off the bikini. Its all about confidence here.

Madhuri

Madhuri Bhattacharya
Your butt and bust has to be proportional, stomach flat in order to look good in a bikini. I saw Tashan only to see Kareena in that bikini and she looked hot. Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone have good bodies too. Other than body, confidence and a right attitude is also essential if you aspire to look good in a bikini.

Barbara Mori in India

/photo.cms?msid=5834835 Mexican actress Barbara Mori, who is playing the lead opposite Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan in his much-awaited "Kites", arrived here Monday for promotion of the film.
Directed by Anurag Basu, "Kites" is a love story that crosses borders and linguistic barriers. It’s a tale of romance between an Indian man and a Mexican beauty.

Actress Kangana Ranaut plays a pivotal role in the film. Hrithik also makes his debut as a singer in the "Kites" album.

Produced by Hrithik’s father Rakesh Roshan and distributed by Reliance Big Pictures, "Kites" will release worldwide in Hindi and English May 21 in over 60 countries.

Vidya exhausted from shooting for 'Who Killed -Jessica'

/photo.cms?msid=5836361 Vidya Balan, who has been shooting outdoors on the streets of Delhi for "Who Killed -Jessica" from dawn till 10.30 p.m., is extremely exhausted.
"There's no time to do anything. By the time we wrap up, all I want to do is crash out for the day," she said.
"Sadly, I haven't even been able to meet my sister who stays in Gurgaon (on the outskirts of Delhi). She's a wife, mother and a jobholder. By the time she comes from work it's too late for us to meet up," the actress said.

However, Vidya is quick to point out that she loves Delhi.
"I love the wide open spaces, the broad streets and the crowded lanes. Rani (Mukerji) and I have been shooting outdoors

. Since she's my favourite actress from the immediately-senior generation, I am happy to be sharing camera space with her," she said.

Characters more important for Madhur than actors

/photo.cms?msid=5824368 Director Madhur Bhandarkar, who judged the acting and dancing skills of the Femina Miss India 2010 Bollywood Diva finalists, says that he would be able to decide whom to cast from among the models once the character of his future film is ready.
"Whenever I cast, I give more importance to the character. For me, character is more important. Once the character of my future film is ready, I will see who fits best in it," Madhur told IANS at Novotel hotel here where he had teamed up with actor Anupam Kher and director Vipul Shah for the live audition and screen test of the 18 finalists of the pageant.
Asked about his reaction to the performance of the contestants, he said: "I think the kind of effort they have put in their performance under the guidance of Anupam Kher is commendable. The way they are emoting is very good. There are six, seven girls, who are very talented. I am sure they will become the front-runners in the industry. "

Madhur maintains that films become the next step for the models because walking the ramp becomes monotonous after some time.
"Everyone loves to explore different levels because modelling at one level becomes monotonous. I have made 'Fashion' so I know how it is. Mugdha Godse, whom I introduced, was a model for couple of years before she ventured into acting...there are so many people coming from fashion to the film industry," he said.

Shedding clothes is no crime: Priyamani

/photo.cms?msid=5369937

Priyamani is clear about one thing. That is- “One has to be professional when it comes to work.” The actress says she can’t say no when filmmakers ask her to wear skimpy costumes to add glamour to a particular song or scene.
“Acting is my career. I am pursuing it with passion. And I can’t be reluctant to the professional demands of my director. Moreover, there is nothing wrong in wearing a bikini or other skimpy attires, as many of my predecessors have set a trend in it,” she says.

Saying that most actresses ranging from Aishwarya Rai to Bipasha Basu have appeared in a bikini, Priyamani says, “Even yesteryear stars like Saroja Devi and Padmini had acted in contemporary roles.”
The ‘Paruthiveeran’ damsel hopes that ‘Sambo Siva Sambo’, the Telugu remake of Tamil hit ‘Naadodigal’ would be an important film in her career. “The role I am playing has no glamour scenes. But nobody is talking about it,” she says.

Apart from ‘Sambo Siva Sambo’, Priyamani is acting in two other Telugu ventures and one Kannada film. “I am open to offers in Tamil too. But the character should be meaty,” she says.

Kajol's sister faints-News-News & Gossip-Indiatimes Movies

Tanisha The sweltering Mumbai heat claimed its first victim in Bollywood. Tanishaa Mukerji fainted on the first day shoot of Be Careful due to dehydration. The film was being shot yesterday at Juhu.
A source says, “Director Chandrakant Singh was shooting a scene with Tanishaa and Rajneesh Duggal. The scene required them to get out of a car and enter a coffee shop in Juhu. The actors were giving a couple of takes from different camera angles when Tanishaa suddenly passed out. The shocked unit members carried her to her vanity van and a doctor was called immediately. As Tanishaa passed out due to dehydration, she was asked to drink some nimboo paani and rest for a while. She resumed shooting after some time.”
Confirming the news, Tanishaa says, “I didn’t drink enough water after my run yesterday morning. I guess it could also be because of the sudden change in climate. I recently came back from LA and the excessive humidity in Mumbai resulted in dehydration.”

Revealed: The climax of 'Kites'-Gossip-News & Gossip-Indiatimes Movies

A still from 'Kites' Much as we’d like to claim that we hate revealing the end of Kites, fact is that we are absolutely delighted to be the news breakers and letting out the climax (no pun intended) of the Hrithik Roshan-Barbara Mori starrer. So, here goes... Anurag Basu’s much awaited film Kites ends tragically with the lead pair Hrithik and Barbara committing suicide. Like with most hit love stories in Bollywood (remember Ek Duuje Ke Liye and Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak?), the makers of Kites too seem to want to win sympathy votes for its sizzling lead pair.

A source says, “Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori, who play lovers in the film, die in the end. They jump off a cliff into the sea. As they jump to their death, the film ends.” Explaining why they end their life, the source says, “Both are on the run. The law is chasing them and so is the mafia. There is no other way out for them.”
Kangna Ranaut, who also stars in the film, doesn’t die. “Kangna ko kucch nahin hota hai. Anyway she has a very small part to play,” adds the source.
We sent a text message to the producer of Kites, Rakesh Roshan and director Anurag Basu but they did not reply. Kites is set to hit the screens on May 21.

Bollywood skips Shoaib-Sania's regal wedding

/photo.cms?msid=5817152

The sheen and the shank of Bollywood, which usually elevates any event with its presence was however missing from Sania's wedding. Invites were sent to most of the big and close friends of Sania from Bollywood.

/photo.cms?msid=5817153

Besides the fading actors like Raza Murad, Rakhshanda Khan and starlet Neha Dhupia, Bollywood's presence was almost close to nil. Apparently Shah Rukh Khan who was invited for the wedding couldn’t make it as he was busy shooting for his forthcoming film, ‘Ra One’. Salman Khan's family got an invite too but Khan Brothers Arbaaz and Salman were busy shooting for ‘Dabangg’. Farah Khan couldn’t make it to the reception as she was busy with ‘Tees Maar Khan’. As expected Mahesh Bhupati couldn’t come, busy after his blossoming romance with Lara.

/photo.cms?msid=5817197

Tennis, they say, is all about coordination of one kind or another. To say the least, Indian star Sania Mirza and her Pakistani groom Shoaib Malik were wonderfully coordinated on the day — colour, cast, cut.
In the last of her wedding celebrations in India, Sania swept into the regal splendour of the reception hall on Thursday in a red and-gold khara dupatta set against cream background. The elaborate costume is traditionally worn by Hyderabadi Muslim brides. It’s a chudidar-kurta with a skillfully draped nine-yard dupatta. The groom’s cream sherwani worked as a fair-set piece with Sania’s glittering get-up.

/photo.cms?msid=5817215

The guest list at the Taj Krishna grand ballroom and lawns, where the reception was held, had a fair mix of politicians like Andhra Pradesh governor ESL Narasimhan, TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu, corporate heavyweight Subrato Roy, the who’s who of Hyderabad society, and friends from the sporting community, including Davis Cuppers Jaideep Mukherjea and Akhtar Ali.

/photo.cms?msid=5817237

Pak cricketer Sohail Tanvir, who was at the reception, said: “It is important Shoaib has married someone he loves. It’s good for Pakistan he has married an Indian superstar.”
Congratulatory messages from netas, including the PM, sportsmen and celebrities, poured in from India and around the world. Pakistan federal minister for population and welfare, Firdios Ashiq Awan, came bearing several gifts, one of which was a crown studded with jewels. The minister greeted Sania and placed the crown on her head.

/photo.cms?msid=5817258

“This marriage is a historic occasion. We wish them all the best. When Sania comes to Pakistan, we will celebrate her marriage all over again. The crown is a symbol of love. We will always love her,’’ the Pak minister said.
The thrust of the cuisine was Hyderabadi, with some tasteful additions like a variety of salad trays and several vegetarian options. Dessert was a happy mix of East and West, Indian sweets lay alongside slices of Tiramisu.

/photo.cms?msid=5817283

Sania and Shoaib — or Shonia, as the couple have come to be called — are expected to leave for Pakistan late next week for a Lahore reception. Shoaib’s mother Sultana Malik said the reception date would be fixed after her son gets back his passport.
She said India was a beautiful experience. Asked what would Sania’s welcome be like in Pakistan, she said: “You wait and see how we welcome our bahu.”

/photo.cms?msid=5817299

Sania will return to India by month-end as she has commitments on the corporate front to keep. Besides, she will need to begin preparations for her return to the early-June WTA Tour.
Shoaib said: “The last few days have been peaceful, more so after the storm after my arrival in India. I’m happier now than I have ever been in my life. I’m looking forward to introducing Sania to my people at our reception in Pakistan.”

/photo.cms?msid=5817312

Shoaib, however, was quick to address a point that has come in for much debate: “Once we’re back from Pakistan, it’ll be work as usual for Sania. She will always play for India, the country of her birth and the country she loves. That will never change.”
Shoaib and Sania are flying to the Maldives for honeymoon.
